CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Led Class (Guided Sanskrit counted class)
In these classes, the teacher will verbally guide you through the primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Covering a partial or modified series, led classes are available to all levels, with options for the full led class if you are are established in another dynamic yoga method or the beginner modified sequence for beginners. These classes move quickly,
In this class the teacher guides the group through Primary Series – the first and the most important sequence of Ashtanga Yoga, known for its therapeutic qualities. Apart from the yoga poses, students learn how to connect the breath with the movement into a flowing meditative practice.
We do also offer led intermediate classes depending of the students practice and capabilities. These classes will be additional to the schedule and each individual student who is ready will be informed of this privately.
As mentioned, If you are absolutely beginner or prefer a slower paced class, we suggest you attend the evening classes.
Class is around 90 mins.
Mysore
The traditional method still used in Mysore today. You will be practicing at your own pace under the guidance of one or more teachers.
Individual, hands-on attention and adjustments is offered, and you can request as much (or as little) help as you want. Adjustments help us understand what the posture should feel like in our body and can assist us in the connection between passive and active stretching. The goal eventually is for the individual to train the body to perform the posture on their own but with hands on assistance we are able to obtain correct alignment, strength and flexibility.
Mysore empowers students to take the practice into their own hands and allows the individual to lean deeper into meditation as they practice as the awareness turns inwards.
Memory of at least the sequence comprising sun salutations and some standing poses is helpful. Teachers will be there to guide you anyway, so if you are an already existing yoga practitioner and have a good understanding of Yoga asana, it will be easy for you to pick up the sequence. Depending on you experience, you may practice a shorter sequence to prepare the body however you will be introduced to new postures as your practice deepens.
For beginners to Mysore, you can join the later morning classes (8am) to receive a little more assistance where needed.
Class is around 90 mins.
Beginners (Modified Led class).
Everyone is welcome at our beginners Led classes, whether you are a complete beginner or have experience in other forms of yoga. If you have not practiced for some time, they make an ideal refresher.
You will receive a thorough introduction to the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga, building strength, flexibility and focus by connecting breath and movement in the half sequence of postures (asanas) from the Primary Series. For optimum results, we recommend taking 2 classes per week.
Class is around 90 mins.
